Grimbergen (B.), 1 October 2009 – This morning at around 09.30, an incident occurred at Chemogas in Grimbergen involving a pressurised vessel of ammonia. Whilst the pressurised vessel was being manually relocated, the tap on the vessel broke causing the vessel to drain empty. No injuries or material damage occurred as a result of this, however, two neighbouring companies were temporarily evacuated as a precautionary measure.
The company emergency plan has been put in effect immediately and functioned adequately. Three minutes after the incident took place, the fire service closed the neighbouring road along the canal as a precautionary measure.
The local emergency services arrived at the scene quickly, but did not need to take any action. However, measurements were taken at the location and at the two neighbouring companies, which indicated that there was no risk to the surrounding area.
Chemogas is currently working with the authorities to carry out further investigation into the cause of the incident that occurred when a number of vessels were relocated on the site. |
